Man Dies Being Booked into Hopkins County Jail

The Texas Rangers are looking into the death of a Dallas man who died while being booked into the Hopkins County Jail early Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, a 30-year-old man was charged with possession of drugs at a traffic stop near Sulphur Springs. Police say the man was cooperative and did not fight them. But he reportedly fell unconscious in police custody. He was given CPR and taken to the hospital, but died there.

Cause of death has not been released, nor has the man’s name. Police say they will release further details after his family has been notified and an investigation is completed.
