COMMERCE - A junior Texas A&M University-Commerce political science major intends to run for the Mayor of Commerce in next year’s municipal election.

32-year-old Coby Marcum is the Chairman of Campus Safety and Security for the Student Government Association. A native of San Antonio, Marcum graduated high school in Plainview. He began classes at A&M-Commerce nearly two years ago.

According to his website, Marcum, if elected would focus on job growth, enhancing the city and university relationship and street improvements. Earlier this year, SGA came before the city council on improvements to the crosswalks in town, including the addition of a 4-way crosswalk at the intersection of Culver St. and Highway 24/50.
