A survey of broadband coverage by the US Census for the years 2013 to 2017 shows that most of Northeast Texas falls in the moderately connected zone, where 65 to 75 percent of residents are subscribed to broadband. That includes about half of the more rural counties in the region. The other half shows between 55 and 65 percent high-speed subscription rates.
The most-connected counties in the region are Collin, Rockwall, and Denton. They are three of only seven Texas counties to be considered fully or almost-fully connected to high-speed internet. The remainder of counties in Northeast Texas have 55 to 75 percent broadband coverage.
The worst coverage in the state is in the far south and far west regions, where less than half of residents are subscribed to high-speed service. In all, Texas has 25 counties with few to no broadband subscribers. In contrast, the most connected counties are suburban counties surrounding the state’s four largest cities – Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, though none of the counties housing those cities are in the top tier of broadband subscribers.
