This week on Movie Picks with Alice Reese, Alice reviews Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Black Mass, Pawn Sacrifice, and Everest.
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials stars Dylan O'Brien as Thomas, the leader of a group of kids who, last we saw them, had just escaped the maze and realized they were an experiment. Alice didn't love this movie as much as the first one, because the plot just didn't seem to exist, but there is action, betrayal, and cliffhangers a plenty, so she does recommend this movie.
Black Mass stars Johnny Depp as James "Whitey" Bulger and Joel Edgerton as his childhood friend/FBI Agent John Connolly. The movie has an excellent cast, and Alice believes Depp's performance should garner him an Oscar nod. It is definitely violent and bloody, but Alice recommends it highly.
Pawn Sacrifice is the true story of Bobby Fischer, from his status of childhood prodigy to his evolution of eccentricity to madness. Tobey Maguire does some of his best work in years as Fisher. Alice thinks this movie was excellent.
Everest is the story of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster. Alice recommends you see this movie, but really recommends that you see it in 3D or IMAX 3D. It not only has amazing views and the feeling of actually being there, but the cast is phenomenal as well.
Come back next week to see what Alice has to say about more movies. You can listen to her on the radio at 4:50 and 5:50 each Friday afternoon during All Things Considered, or find her here online by searching Movie Picks with Alice Reese.
