Commerce Mayor Dr. John Ballotti says it appears a tax increase won't be necessary in 2015-16, as the City Council holds its budget workshops. Texas A&M University-Commerce athletic director Ryan Ivey says leaving A&M-Commerce for Austin Peay State University in Tennessee is "bittersweet," and one that was difficult for him to make, even though Austin Peay is an NCAA Division 1 member. A&M-C athletic teams won six Lone Star Conference championships in 2014-15 under Ivey's leadership. He says a new special-events center is the number-one thing the A&M-C athletic program needs in the future.
