No pay increase, but no cuts for Hunt County Sheriff's Department

GREENVILLE - Sheriff Randy Meeks had sought a five percent pay raise for his employees, as well as other additions that would have totaled $650,000.

But following a Monday debate, Hunt County Commissioners came up with a proposal where by Meeks’ budget would be increased roughly $156,000. A portion of those funds could be partially offset by an expanded contract with Prisoner Transport Services.

Meeks' department had originally been targeted for budget cuts by Judge John Horn.

The Sheriff did receive the go ahead Monday to seek to a referendum vote, perhaps as early as next year, on a possible tax hike for the pay increases and other items he was seeking.
