Omarr Awakens New Song Ideas

Citing influences such as Stevie Wonder and Jamiriquai, Omarr Awake creates music infused with pop,  soul and jazz elements. His creative songwriting mind has been toiling away on new compositions during recent years as a backing musician. Now, he's back on the road as a solo artist and looking ahead to an upcoming recording session.

Just settling into Dallas after years of residing in Austin, Omarr is touring with a new set of songs, and is interested in seeing what works and what doesn't in front of audiences before he takes the songs into the studio. Awake will make local stops in Dallas and Greenville over the coming days, and spoke with Matt from the road.

Listen to Notably Texan, weekdays from Noon-3pm on KETR.

Born in Dallas, Texas, Matt moved to the Sulphur Springs area in 1990 and settled in Commerce shortly thereafter. Having dreamed of working in radio since childhood, he began working at KETR while taking Radio-Television courses at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1993. Matt has transitioned from a part-time worker and pupil of KETR, to the station’s Chief Announcer/Producer and supervisor of student broadcasters. A familiar voice of 88-9 KETR, Matt has hosted such shows as The Late Nite Lion, and can currently be heard as host of Notably Texan.
