Recently, Texas A&M University – Commerce welcomed a bit of Latin flair into its doors. The Campina Grande Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. Vladimir Silva, made their last stop on a short college tour through the southern United States, first making stops at Mississippi State University, and then at Louisiana State University. The choir hails from the city of Campina Grande, a bustling hub of business in central Brazil.
On November 18th, the Chamber Choir stopped in Commerce and performed a full concert alongside Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Chorale and University Singers groups. The concert was expertly performed by both choirs, and the time that both groups shared together during rehearsal and after the concert created lasting friendships.
When asked how he thinks this experience has changed the lives of the Brazilian choir members, Dr. Silva, who received his Doctorate alongside of our own Dr. Hooper at Louisiana State University, was quoted as saying: “I do believe that this time in America has been greatly beneficial for the choir. None of them have ever traveled to America before, and the time they have spent here has really opened their eyes to a completely different lifestyle. We have all had a lot of fun being here.” In June of 2013, A&M – Commerce’s Chorale will be traveling to Brazil to sing with Dr. Silva’s choir again.
