Police department to cancel citizens academy for spring

GREENVILLE - A lack of enrollment is forcing the Greenville Police Department to cancel the spring session Citizen Police Academy, which was scheduled to begin this month.

While hundreds of residents have attended the CPA over the years, few expressed interest this time around. This program has contributed to the success of other programs including the Citizen Academy Alumni Association and the Citizens on Patrol (COPS) program.

According to Greenville Chief of Police Dan Busken, “We intend to use the break between Citizen Police Academy sessions to revise the program somewhat. Many of our recent graduates thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They indicated we could improve the Academy experience by making it more interactive. We are currently studying the program and intend to meet with our instructors to determine how we can make revisions to the curriculum. Our goal is to have the curriculum revised by the end of the summer, so we can host a CPA session this fall.”
