Rains Soak Northeast Texas, Ice Storm Strikes Northcentral Texas

School will be delayed again on Friday with 10 a.m. start due to flash flooding following over five inches of rain falling in Delta County and the surrounding areas. Even the planned Skywarn class on Tuesday evening was canceled due to weather.

Cooper ISD announced Wednesday afternoon that classes on Thursday will begin at 10 a.m. for the driving safety of buses and students. There are several low-lying roads closed due to flooding.

Cooper ISD Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger reported the last bus made it back to campus at 5:45 p.m. Thursday evening. There were 11 roads closed including four Farm-to-Market roads with many others on the verge of flooding.

While detouring puddles, Northcentral Texans have seen sleet and ice. Over 10,000 Cooke County Electric customers have been without power, some as long as five hours. Crews are working to restore power as the weather permits.

National Weather Service predicts periods of heavy rain throughout the week and possible severe storms on Saturday across Northeast Texas, Eastern Oklahoma into Arkansas.

As always drivers are cautioned to “turn around, don’t drown."
