Ribbon Cutting set for Cooper ISD Elementary

COOPER – Administrators with the Cooper ISD will conduct a ribbon-cutting Sunday to mark the opening of its new elementary school.

The new facility, located at 1401 SW 8th St, is the site of the old football stadium, which was torn down and reconstructed near the High School.

The elementary school will house head start through fifth grade students.

Voters approved a $9.7 million bond proposal in November 2007 to fund both the school and stadium projects. Due to the high cost of construction-related materials at the time, CISD was forced to delay the start of the project until May 2009.

The facility is over 67,000 square feet in size, and holds a total of 23 regular classrooms. Innovative features include a security system, energy management system, recycling system and an assortment of new technology.

Sunday's event runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
