Former Texas A&M University football coach Gene Stallings is said to be recovering well from a heart problem that sent him to the hospital in Alabama last week.

24/7 Sports reported today that Stallings, a Paris resident who also coached at the University of Alabama, could be released from the hospital this weekend.

The 82-year-old Stallings played his collegs football at Texas A&M in the mid-1950s, where he was one of the famed "Junction Boys" under Bear Bryant. He coached A&M from 1965 to 1971. The following year he became Tom Landry's righthand man on the Dallas Cowboys.

Stallings went on to become the head coach of the then-St. Louis Cardinals and in 1990, became the head coach at the University of Alabama. He served on the Texas A&M University Board of Regents and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame (as a coach) in 2011.
