State Highway 19 Continues To Be In Disrepair

"Rough Road Ahead" warning signs announce to drivers the condition of State Highway 19 between Delta and Hopkins counties.
Cindy Roller/Cooper Review

To travelers along State Highway 19 from Delta County to Hopkins County hear and see the disrepair the “rough road ahead” signs are warning. Following a recent resurfacing and repair to State Highway 19 which spanned several months drivers are experiencing problems maneuvering. It was hoped the new surface would lessen the road noise experienced by many drivers, sadly that has not been the case.

“We are aware of the problem with the new pavement surface on SH 19 north of Sulphur Springs,” said Texas Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Tim McAlavy. “We are working with the contractor to fix/resolve the problem...meanwhile we ask drivers to slow down and drive to road conditions, and please refrain from using the shoulder as a travel lane.”
Social media has been the platform for most complaints. To clarify this is not a Hopkins County precinct issue as this is a State Highway. The County does not want to discourage drivers from traveling along this highway but to make sure to be cautious with the rough road surface until a solution can be established by TxDoT.
