Strong storms possible throughout Thursday

Glory Cassagnol

Strong to severe storms are possible this afternoon and into the evening for the region.

By mid-afternoon Thursday, two Significant Weather Advisories had been issued by the National Weather Service for portions of the region.

One of the storms that prompted the SWA for Lamar, Delta, and Fannin counties, did some damage to Hunt county before leaving the area. It wasn't hail, or wind, but lightning!

A lightning bolt struck a tree outside of the Rayburn Student Center on the campus of Texas A&M University - Commerce, sending limbs to the ground. No students or faculty were harmed.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 7 p.m. tonight for Kaufman and Van Zandt counties.

88.9 KETR-FM will have live severe weather coverage in the event of severe weather.

Stay tuned, and stay safe!
