AUSTIN - Two local community colleges are among 11 Texas recipients of thousands in grant dollars to purchase equipment and train students to enter the workforce.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced Tuesday the more than $3 million is part of the Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) program, which promotes career and technical training.
The Maintenance and Repair Technician program at Paris Junior Collegewill be awarded $314,520 as part of the grant, while Northeast Texas Community Collegein Mt. Pleasant will receive $232,532 for their Industrial Engineering Technician program.
"There are critical jobs that need to be filled as soon as possible," Combs said. “These grants will help students move one step closer to employment in fields that are very important to Texas’ diverse economy.”
Since 2009, community colleges and technical institutes have been awarded $16 million to buy career training equipment.
