Texas A&M University-Commerce economics professor Dr. Dale Funderburk comments on an article reporting that Speaker of the House Joe Straus has sent a letter to members of the state legislature telling them to prepare for a leaner budget in the 2017-18 biennium because of the downtown in oil prices.  State Comptroller Glen Hegar is somewhat more optimistic, pointing out how well Texas has weathered the downturn to date.  In another article, economist Dr. Mark Dotzour predicts that a recession may be on the horizon, if historical trends hold.
