Temperatures below zero greeted the communities of Northeast Texas on Tuesday morning, as thousands of people across the region remain without electrical service. Widespread outages across the region began early Monday morning, and many have been without power for more than 24 hours as of Tuesday morning.
An estimated 4,000,000 Texans were without electricity at their homes, as the state's power grid, which serves about three-fourths of Texas, failed to meet the challenges of severe cold weather that began Sunday night.
The energy macro-systems monitoring website, poweroutages.us, reported that more than 15,000 households in Hunt County alone remained without electricty as the day began.
Much of Northeast Texas recorded temperatures in the negative single digits Tuesday morning, with afternoon highs forecast in the low 20s.
