TxDOT says it will lower the speed limit on State Highway 19 in Hopkins County. The road is an oft-maligned stretch blamed for numerous accidents, some of them fatal.
Public outcry over how dangerous the 65 MPH highway is spurred TxDOT Wednesday night to approve dropping the speed limit to 55 mph.
The agency also plans two safety improvement projects for Highway 19 in the future. One in Sulphur Springs and one in Cooper.
