Update: Child found dead at Greenville reservoir

GREENVILLE - City Public Information Officer Lori Philyaw says that the body of 3-year-old Letaro Micky was found Tuesday morning, hours after he had disappeared below the lake's surface.

Witnesses say the child was fishing with his parents and fell into the south side of the small pond adjacent to Greenville Reservoir No. 4 just before 6 p.m. Monday. The lake, located next to the Greenville Electric Utility System Power Plant, is approximately 30 feet deep at its lowest level.

According to Philyaw, Micky's father attempted to grab the child from the water but was unable to pull him to safety due to the swift current.

“Once the power plant pumps were shut off, divers entered the water to begin searching for the boy.”

Crews worked late into the night Monday searching for the Micky, but with no success. Divers were called to the scene and rescue boats were using sonar in the effort. Philyaw tells KETR that evening storms did play a factor in the postponement of the search, which was temporarily stopped around midnight, but noted that dark conditions and murky water were complicating efforts.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday by Justice of the Peace Sheila Linden. Micky's body has been sent to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
