Emily Porter, chairperson of the Bonham Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO), says the city is seeking a grant of up to $80,000 to add a new water line that would provide more water for expected population grown in the city and for business.  A new line would also provide more water for fire-fighting capabilities.  BEDCO is working with a company named Aerial Focus in developing a new city map and a new website.  The Bonham ISD board has joined the city and Fannin County in approving the F

Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd discusses the Bonham ISD's $30 million bond election Saturday, which would provide for a new Bonham High School building and a new multi-purpose center, among other projects.  The mayor says a new high school is important to industrial development in the city.  Also, Saturday is the annual Heritage Day Festival in Bonham, with events taking place in downtown Bonham from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Select BISD staff to carry concealed handguns at school

Under a new security program, some Bonham ISD staff members will be carrying concealed handguns at school, according to a report by KXII-TV.

More than 80 staff members have applied for the district's new Defender Program, the report said.

"Of that group we will trim that down and there will be some actively in the program and we'll have some alternates as well," Bonham Independent School District superintendent Marvin Beaty said.

Each classroom, office and school bus will have a safe, with a mace gun inside, Beaty said.

The Texas State Board of Education on Thursday voted to drop Algebra II from the required curriculum for high schoolers. This comes at a time where many states are starting to do the exact opposite by adding Algebra II to their required curriculum.
