At the end of its 2018 fiscal year, the Fannin County Children’s Center says the rate of abuse cases around the county has more than doubled from the year before. So has the number of forensic interviews conducted.

According to the FCCC, the Children’s Advocacy Center "received 266 new referrals in the fiscal year ending August 31, 2018. This was a 116 percent increase over the previous year. The CAC staff also conducted 240 forensic interviews in the same year, which was a 124 percent increase over the previous year when 107 interviews were done.

In the hope of reducing child fatalities in Texas, the department that oversees the state’s Child Protective Services division has ramped up its efforts to conduct predictive data analysis and reduce the turnover of CPS caseworkers, the agency’s commissioner told a state Senate panel Thursday.

An attempt to escape arrest in southern Hunt County ended with a suspect injured and in jail, according to the Hunt County Sheriff’s Department.

Trevor Scott Copeland of Quinlan was convicted last month in connection with the same incident and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

UPDATE 2:56 p.m. - A jury in the 196th District Court has sentenced Trevor Scott Copeland of Quinlan to 50 years in prison after finding him guilty Wednesday.
