Cooper ISD released the 2018-2019 school year calendar.

Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the new upcoming 2018-2019 school calendar and holidays. Calendar example “B” was selected and approved. Spring Break will be late in March to coordinate with Texas A&M University in Commerce.

School will begin on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018. Christmas holiday will be from Dec. 24-Jan. 4, and Spring Break will be March 18-22, 2019. Graduation will be Friday, May 24, 2019 at 7 p.m.

In the January meeting, the Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees was gifted with appreciation in honor of School Board Appreciation Month.

“Thank you for the gifts,” said Cooper ISD Board President Thomas Darden. “Everything you do makes our job easier.” The Cooper Elementary campus used a “sewing to success” theme for their gift of appreciation.

Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees recently honored Lane Blakley and Hannah Foster for their achievement in the Lonestar Leadership Academy. Cooper Junior High Principal Julie Silman was very proud to honor the duo and sees continued excellence in their future.

The Cooper Independent School District Board of Trustees recently met for a regular meeting.

Librarian Lisa Chambliss gave a demonstration of the Go Center and Maker Space areas with a tour. They presented a student created video. The center has a college readiness room and 3D printer. 

The Board was recognized by the staff and students with many gifts like this banner created by Cooper Elementary.

It was announced during last Thursday’s meeting of Cooper Independent School District’s Trustees that Cooper Elementary Principal Dr. Cathy Severns will be retiring soon, and in March current assistant principal Lynn Byrd will assume the position.

“Mrs. Byrd has a heart for kids and a passion for student learning. She will be an excellent campus leader! We are looking forward to more great things from our elementary campus,” said Cooper ISD Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger.

With a new year brings the School Board Recognition Month. During January citizens are asked to take time to thank the more than 7,000 locally elected citizens who deeply care about the success of all Texas children as they serve without pay as Trustees of the school district.
