Texas A&M-Commerce associate professor of counseling Dr. LaVelle Hendricks discusses plans for Black History Month during February.  Among the activities is an essay-writing contest for Commerce ISD students.  On Saturday, February 24, the Ivory Moore-David Talbot Distinguished Leaders will feature an address by State Rep. Dan Flynn.

The Hall of Languages on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce is one of the oldest buildings in town. It used to be home to the university’s library. On Tuesday, April 18, 2017, the structure will be renamed in recognition of Dr. David Arlington Talbot who was the first African American faculty member at East Texas State University, and later, the first African American university administrator.

On April 18, Texas A&M University-Commerce will host Andrew Young as part of a day of events that will culminate in the renaming of the Hall of Languages to Talbot Hall, in honor of the late Dr. David A. Talbot.
