Commerce ISD board member LaVelle Hendricks says the school district will offer voluntary Saturday sessions for children in grades 1-6.  The sessions two Saturdays per month will offer tutoring for children wanting to improve their skills.  Parents and students are invited to a meeting on the Saturday school session at 9 a.m. Saturday (February 27) at A.C. Williams Elementary School.

The fourth annual Dan and Jalinna Jones Educational Awards will be presented to about 150 children from area schools at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Sam Rayburn Student Center at Texas A&M University-Commerce.  The awards are named in honor of A&M-Commerce president Dr. Dan Jones and his wife Jalinna.  Dr. Jones and Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, associate professor of counseling, are the guests on this edition of the Blacklands Cafe.

Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, associate professor of counseling with Texas A&M University-Commerce, says Martin Luther King, Junior Day observances are planned for Sunday, January 17 in Commerce and Monday, January 18 in Sulphur Springs, sponsored by the Hunt and Hopkins County African-American Leadership Conference.  Observances in Greenville, including a downtown 5-K run and a parade, are planned for Saturday, January 16th.
