Jim Patton, president of the Commerce Public Library Board of Directors, relates plans for a fund-raising project to refurbish the exterior of the library in time for the building's 100th anniversary next year.  The board is asking $400 per spindle, the curvy, vertical posts on the parapet that goes around the top of the building.  If donors are found for all of the spindles, the library will have raised more than $40,000 for renovation of the parapet, among other repairs.

Dick Latson, a member of the Commerce Community Cares board of directors, says the local charitable organization has achieved 75 percent of its $27,500 goal for this year.  A "thermometer" sign near the Lone Star Eatery shows the campaign's progress.  Contributions can be sent to P.O.
