Harry Turner, an officer of the Commerce Community Action Program (C-CAP) and a deacon with Mount Moriah Baptist Church, says the church will host a back-to-school event where school supplies will be provided at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, associate professor of counseling at Texas A&M-Commerce, discusses events honoring the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (January 21) at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Commerce, and at 7 p.m. Monday at the Morning Chapel Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs.  A parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Greenville.

Harry Turner, deacon of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church and a member of the Commerce Community Action Program (C-CAP), says the annual Juneteenth celebration will be at the Ivory Moore Park on the east side of Commerce from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday (June 24).  Juneteenth (officially June 19) celebrates the announcement on June 19, 1865 in Galveston that the slaves had been freed.


Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, chairman of the Hunt and Hopkins County African-American Leadership Conference, discusses Martin Luther King, Jr. Day events Sunday and Monday (January 15-16) in Commerce and Sulphur Springs.  The Commerce observance will be at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.  The Sulphur Springs event will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
