Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss relates plans for the "Bois D' Arc Fourth of July" celebration Sunday night (June 30) at Centennial Park.  Paul says the chamber receives a major price reduction in the fireworks display by holding the event the weekend before July 4.  The event includes live music, children's activities and food.  KETR will broadcast from the event.  Admission is one can of food per individual to be donated to the Commerce Food Bank.

Paul Voss, Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager, says the ribbon cutting for the remodeled Alliance Bank on Highway 24 in Commerce will be at 4 p.m. Thursday (April 18).  A new building was practically built around the existing building. Paul also discusses a recent ribbon cutting for the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church on Bishop Street in Commerce, and plans for the annual Bois D'Arc Car Show on Saturday, April 27.

Paul Voss, manager of the Commerce Chamber of Commerce, says a large contingent of local leaders have converged on the State Capitol in Austin for "Hunt County Days."  They'll be advocating for the county on a variety of issues, including transportation needs through Wednesday.  "Hunt County Days" occurs every two years when the State Legislature is in session.

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss says, despite the incessant rain on the weekend of September 21-22, many activites of the annual Bois D'Arc Bash went on as planned, and some vendors even made more money this year than last year, and plan to return again.

Bois D'Arc Bash

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss estimates the Bois D'Arc Bash attracts between 12 and 15,000 people each year the fourth weekend of September.  He says the event Friday and Saturday (September 21-22) will attract 140 vendors this year.  The theme this year is "Bash to the Future." Country singer Christ Colston is the featured music performer Saturday night.  Event include the Commerce Leadership Institute Barbecue Friday night and the parade at 10 a.m.

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss says a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place recently for two new LED message boards that are now in service, notifying passersby of events taking place in Commerce.  The boards are located at the entrance of the Magnuson Hotel and Wal-Mart, and at the City Park.  A third board will soon be operating on Culver Street near the Commerce Middle School and A.C.

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss says the city is gaining several new businesses: the Interstate Body Shop, on Highway 224, which will also include an Enterprise car rental franchise; the Sand Knop Tree Farm, near the Hydro Aluminum plant east of FM 3218; and a new storage shed manufacturing plant on Highway 11 east of town.

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss says this year's Independence Day celebration takes place Sunday evening, July 1 at Centennial Park.  The event includes music from the Cross Trails Cowboys Church Band and Twisted Whiskey.  The event will include with a major fireworks display.  Paul says the former Taco Bell location in Commerce is being remodeled for a new Burger King, which is expected to open this summer.

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss says the annual Spring Bois D'Arc Car Show will be in downtown Commerce starting at 8 a.m. Saturday (April 28).  The event includes new cars, vintage cars and even motorcycles.  Paul also discusses the new digital message boards that have been installed at the City Park and near the Magnuson Hotel.  One more will be installed near A.C. Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss says the chamber's annual banquet will be Thursday evening, March 8 in the Rayburn Student Center at Texas A&M-Commerce.  Paul says the banquet will likely again have a casino theme, this time possibly centered around Frank Sinatra's "Rat Pack."  The chamber will announce its "Citizen of the Year" at the banquet, and other groups will also announce honors.

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss discusses celebrations of the 2017 NCAA Division II football champions, the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions.  The team will be recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game vs. Midwestern State on Thursday, January 25.  At 11 a.m. Friday, January 26, a program honoring the team will be presented in Ferguson Auditorium (Social Science Building) followed by lunch and a mixer from 12 noon- 2 p.m.

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss says the installation of LED message boards at the City Park and outside the Magnusson Hotel (near the entrance to Wal-Mart) will improve communications in the city.  The boards will show text messages and videos to inform local people about events and other announcements, and they will also include lighted advertising signs for local businesses.  A third sign will be installed soon at a location to be announced.

Commerce Chamber of Commerce manager Paul Voss says the chamber will again host "Trick or Treat on the Square" from 5:30 to 7 Tuesday evening in downtown Commerce.  Paul says last year's event attracted more than 3,000 children.  Paul says the Chamber's Christmas celebration, including a parade of lights, is set for Saturday, December 2.
