The assistant chief of the Cooper Fire Department Tanner Crutcher says the department now has 18 fire fighters, but needs 25 to be fully staffed.  Only four volunteers were available to fight a recent two-story house fire in Cooper.  Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, live near Cooper, be in good physical condition, and be able to pass a background check.  Prospective volunteers may pick up an application at Cooper City Hall.  Also on this program is Cooper Review

Last Wednesday volunteer fire departments of Cooper, Klondike, as well as Hopkins County Fire Department fought a multi-alarm house fire on East Waco Street in Cooper.

By the time the emergency call came through the Delta County Sheriff’s Office at 10:40 a.m. the wooden framed structure was already fully engulfed in flames. The heat was so intense vinyl siding on the neighboring home across the street was melting even on the cool 60 degree fall day.

The inmate work crew helped remove the tiles from the Delta County Courthouse steps. Both entrances on the south and east sides are complete.

The Delta County Commissioners Court opted to postpone the County-wide clean-up week due to inability to secure dumpsters for the four County barns. Administrative Assistant Tanner Crutcher said the agenda item will be readdressed at the next meeting on Monday, April 11. It is tentatively set for April 23-30, pending Court approval.

It is also noted the south side steps of the Delta County Courthouse are now reopened after receiving the same finish treatment as the east side steps.
