Dr. Hendricks is also planning an event for Saturday, August 31 to promote good relations between the Commerce Police and students

Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, associate professor of counseling at Texas A&M-Commerce, recently led a group of students on a trip to Mexico in which they learned about how the country treats and punishes those who violate its drug laws.  And Dr. Hendricks also will lead students on his regular tour of the historical sites from the civil-rights movement in the South during the 1960s.

Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, associate professor of counseling at Texas A&M-Commerce, relates plans for the third annual Dr. Dan Jones 5-K Fun Run and Walk, which begins at 8 a.m. Saturday (April 27) in front of the Ferguson Social Sciences Building.  Dr. Jones, the late president of A&M-Commerce, was an avid runner  Dr. Hendricks says proceeds from the run will be used for a memorial to Dr. Jones.

Dr. LaVelle Hendricks, associate professor of counseling at Texas A&M-Commerce, discusses events honoring the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (January 21) at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Commerce, and at 7 p.m. Monday at the Morning Chapel Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs.  A parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in downtown Greenville.

Texas A&M-Commerce associate professor of counseling Dr. LaVelle Hendricks reflects on the opioid crisis, which reportedly resulted in more than 1,300 Texas deaths in 2016.  And with the movement gaining momentum to decriminalize recreational use of marijuana, Dr. Hendricks says it's important to make treatment a requirement in such cases.
