Tim McMurray, Texas A&M-Commerce athletic director, says the Lions will open the 2020 football season at home at 6 p.m., Saturday, September 5 against Simon Fraser, an NCAA Division 2 team from British Columbia, Canada.   The Lions will host perennial Division 2 playoff team Bowie State from Maryland, at 6 p.m. Saturday, September 19.  The homecoming game will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, October 24 vs. West Texas A&M.  The Lions host six home games during the 2020 season.

Texas A&M-Commerce Athletic Director Tim McMurray says a new artificial-turf surface will be installed on Ernest Hawkins Field at Memorial Stadium this summer.  The giant Lion logo, 50 yards in width, will go away when the new turf, which will be a tradtional green, is installed.  Also, a 78-hundred square foot addition to the football dressing rooms will be built.  The Lions will have a 10-game schedule in 2019, as efforts to add a home game in the first week of the season have no


Texas A&M-Commerce Athletic Director Tim McMurray reports that the two Lion football players who were recently shot in Miami, Jay Bias and Xavier Morris, have each returned home and are recovering well.  McMurray also discusses plans for the expansion of the Lone Star Conference, with eight new schools joining the league in 2019-20.  None of them, however, will play football.

Texas A&M-Commerce athletic director Tim McMurray says he has known new head football coach David Bailiff for nearly 20 years at Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) and as a competitor when Bailiff was head coach at Rice and McMurray was in the SMU athletic department, and calls Bailiff a "players' coach" who is "unbelievably plugged into high school football coaches in Texas."  Bailiff will be introduced in events today (Dec. 12) at 11 a.m. McKinney ISD Stadium (where the NCAA Division 2 championship game will be played Saturday) and at 3 p.m.
