Greenville – A major Hunt County highway will soon be named for a king. The stretch of Interstate 30 which passes through Greenville will soon be officially renamed in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In November, the Greenville City Council voted to reaffirm a 13-year-old resolution as the first step in obtaining official state highway signs to name the highway for King. State Rep. Dan Flynn and State Sen. Bob Deuell were then to file bills in the current Texas Legislative session. Flynn says he's already filed the bill. There is no timetable on when the legislation may be considered, however. In July, 1995 the Council originally passed a resolution to rename Interstate 30 in Greenville in King's honor. The Texas Department of Transportation requires state legislation sponsored by a lawmaker in order to officially recognize a highway as a memorial highway.
