Bonham youth awarded for saving mother's life

By Scott Harvey

Bonham – The Texoma Council of Governments have awarded a 12-year-old boy from Bonham a heroes medal for his efforts in helping save his mother's life. Thomas Standlee was presented the honor and given a hero's ovation Monday.

On June 14, Thomas dialed 911 when he realized his mother was having excruciating chest pains and physically could not get help herself. A dispatcher says the boy kept a cool head, answering all her questions and helping first responders to arrive quickly.

Anna Rutledge, Standlee's mother, feels she may have died if it weren't for her son's quick actions.
