Felony indictment leads to arrest of S. Springs man

Sulphur Springs – A former business partner of longtime Sulphur Springs physician Dr. Don O'Neal is in custody on an indictment alleging theft and misapplication of fiduciary property.

Gary Allen Stokes turned himself in Thursday.

Stokes was reportedly involved in several hundreds of thousand dollars in checks being put into O'Neal's account.

Authorities are continuing their investigation at a local, state and federal level. Prosecutors have not ruled out the possibility that another person may be involved.

Authorities had previously issued 60 indictments against Dr. O'Neal for charges ranging from alleged forgery and delivery of controlled substances and first-degree and second-degree offenses of theft and misapplication of fiduciary property.

The district attorney says Thursday's arrest of Gary Stokes does not mean the investigation against Dr. O'Neal has reached a conclusion.
