LONE OAK - Wet road conditions were in a factor in a Wednesday morning traffic accident that took the life of a Sulphur Springs man.

The Department of Public Safety says 36-year-old Shannon Bigler was traveling along Highway 69 north of Lone Oak when his vehicle hydroplaned, left the roadway and struck a tree.

DPS was called to the scene at 9:47 a.m.

Trooper James Purcell tells KETR that while Bigler was not speeding, it was determined that he was traveling at an unsafe speed considering the wet pavement.

The National Weather Service had issued flood watches for parts of Hunt County, as well as flood warnings for sections of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which expired around noon.
