Maximum punishment levied in theft ruling

GREENVILE - A Garland man, charged as part of a widespread identity theft scheme, has been sentence.

39-year-old Paul Anthony Jonaitis will spend two years in a state jail.  That’s the maximum sentence for a conviction of forgery of a financial instrument.

Three other counts, including two for engaging in organized crime and one count of fraudulent use possession of identification information were dropped as part of a plea deal.

Authorities claim Jonaitis worked alongside a group of criminals to pass forged checks totaling $1,100 at area banks in 2010.
