Lives spared in destructive house fire

WINDOM - A Fannin County family pet is credited with waking her owners as their house burned Tuesday morning.

David Oliver, of Windom, tells KXII-TV that the bark from his dog, Sissy, woke him and his fiancé at about 2 a.m., alerting them of the flames.

Oliver was unsuccessful in battling the blaze himself before firefighters from Bonham, Dodd City, Ector and Honey Grove arrived on scene. Still, the house could not be saved. A cause for the fire is under investigation.

Oliver hails his dog a hero. He says he’s grateful that everyone got out safety.
