Local hospitals receive B's and C's in national review

Gesundheitsnewsnet

More than 2,600 hospitals across the nation, including 219 in Texas, have been issued letter grades through the nonprofit quality-improvement organization Leapfrog Group, ranking hospital safety.

The scores are based on voluntary surveys which looks at, among other items, how often patients in a particular hospital fall, have preventable complications from surgery and how hospital staff perform on hand hygiene measures.

Locally, Greenville’s Hunt Regional Medical Centerreceived a B while both Paris Regional Medical Centerand Hopkins County Memorial Hospital were given a C.

Of the hospitals issued a safety score by Leapfrog, 27 percent received an A, 26 percent a B and 47 percent a C. No hospital yet has a score of a D or F. However, the organization plans to issue a report of very poor-performing hospitals at a later date.
