QUINLAN - Correction: Memorial is next weekend in Hunt County for Rebecca Wingo, a former Quinlan resident who was one of 12 killed in last month’s mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater.
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 18 at Ford High School where Wingo, then Rebecca Hernandez, graduated in 1997.
She then joined the U.S. Air Force where she served as a linguist while stationed in Hawaii before moving to Aurora, Colorado.
The 32-year-old single mother of two daughters attended the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises with a friend on July 20 when alleged gunman James Holmes opened fire on the crowd. Two of the other victims had ties to Texas. 58 were injured.
Loved ones and those unrelated to the Colorado theater victims have donated thousands to assist the families, including over $20,000 raised for Wingo.
