According to authorities the bridge on US Highway 271 crossing from Lamar County over the Red River into Oklahoma will close at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 due to rising waters.

Texas Department of Transportation (Paris/Lamar County) stated the main reason for the closure was due to the fact the Oklahoma side of the bridge is lower and flooding occurs.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation had been trying to take measures to prevent the road from flooding but with recent rains it was unavoidable. The road had been recently down to one lane. It is unclear when the road might reopen.

Drivers can consult drivetexas.org for state-wide road closures. Suggested alternate routes are Highway 37, Highway 78, 75 or Interstate 35.
