A small strip of Fannin County under abnormally dry, conditions is all that remains of a drought that has nagged the region for almost a year. The latest report by the Texas Water Development Board is evidence that drenching summer storms have polished off almost all of the drought that at the beginning of the year had reached extreme conditions in much of the region.
However, Northeast Texas’ good fortune comes as more of the state overall is being overtaken by increasing drought problems. According to the TWDB, 6 percent of the state is now dealing with drought, due to lack of rainfall.
Severe conditions have been declared in parts of the Panhandle. Meanwhile blotches of moderate drought are showing up throughout the western, central, and southern parts of Texas.
