Cooper Natural Resources Conservation Service staff, Kristi Oats and Hillary Murray, along with NRCS Earth Team Volunteer Jennifer Dwyer, presented programs on Soil Health to Fannindel Elementary and Cooper Elementary fifth graders.

The students were provided a power point presentation and learned about the billions of microorganisms that live in the soil and the importance of soil health to all living things. The trio entertained and educated students on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 in their superhero-themed “dirt” T-shirts.

The Delta Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a poster contest and all fifth graders are invited to participate. The theme is “Healthy Soils are Full of Life.” There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner selected from the district. Those winners will go on to compete at the Area contest and if their posters are selected as winners they will be invited to attend an Area Awards Banquet in Jacksonville, Texas, in May.
