A Richardson police officer shot during domestic disturbance call died from his wounds Wednesday night.

Officer David Sherrard, a 14-year member of the Richardson PD, became the department’s first officer to be killed in the line of duty. At a press conference this morning, Richardson Police Chief Jim Spivey said Sherrard was shot as police were negotiating with a man who’d allegedly shot another man at an apartment complex off Renner Road.

Spivey said the Richardson PD has turned the investigation over to the Plano Police Department because the case is too close to too many officers in Richardson.
