The North Texas Municipal Water District says residents need not worry about drinking water safety, despite the chlorine smell.
The district is in the middle of a 30-day cleansing of the water supply. Part of the treatment involves chlorine. Some residents have worried that the water was not safe to drink because of a stronger-than-usual chlorine smell. But the district says chlorine levels are in compliance with guidelines from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
In a statementreleased Thursday Mick Rickman, deputy director of operations and maintenance at NTMWD, said the process is a safe and scientifically proven method for making the water supply safe.
The cleansing process is set to end on March 26.
