County to participate in emergency notification program

By Scott Harvey

Hunt County – Commissioners Monday approved Hunt County's involvement in the Immediate Response Information System (IRIS) Program.

The City of Commerce, Commerce ISD and A&M-Commerce have been utilizing the system for more than a year.

The interlocal agreement allows elected officials, department heads and others to participate at a cost of $3.60 per person. Commerce citizens are charged an annual fee of $6.

IRIS provides updates regarding weather-related closings and other critical issues by sending out notifications via home phone, cell phone and/or email.
