Commerce ISD Distributes iPads, Raises more than $4,800

Scott Harvey

COMMERCE - Despite cancelling its outdoor iPad fundraiser this month due to the extreme heat, the Commerce ISD says it raised just under $5,000 for the initiative.

The extra funds help parents of district high school students pay for the device, a 16-gigabyte iPad 2 equipped with Wi-Fi.  Dozens were recently distributed.

The goal is to provide every high school student with the education tool, and was made possible with an initial pledge by the Commerce Schools Educational Enrichment Foundation of $30,000 to lower the iPad price. Payment plans were offered to students.

Superintendent Blake Cooper says there’s one more chance for students to sign up during the first week of classes. However, a finance plan will not be offered.
