It is official. In a special called meeting Wednesday morning the Delta County Commissioners Court canvassed the special election votes from the ballot proposition to legalize the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption only. The final total came to 446 for the sale and 413 against it, accepting two additional provisional votes.
“We had 864 votes cast which is a good turnout for it being a different time of the year and only one ballot item,” said Grace Crabb of the Delta County Clerk’s office during court. “In a week and two days we had 364 people early vote – an increased number from the usual.” According to the report, there were 3,284 registered voters for this election in Delta County and 26.31 percent voted.
The Court discussed the slight confusion some voters expressed as some boxes for voting were that of the school, in the places the County formerly had polling places. The Court expressed their appreciation to Crabb for her work on the election as it was her first canvassing before adjourning.
