The 2015 severe storm season was one for the Texas record books with over 70 confirmed tornadoes, 17 people lost their lives and nearly 10 more lost in flash flooding.
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth is helping citizens be prepared for the 2016 severe weather season. On Monday, March 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Delta County Civic Center in Cooper there will be a free SKYWARN weather program offered in partnership with the Delta County Emergency Management.
The class is free of charge and no pre-registration is necessary. It is for official storm spotters as well as anyone with weather interests. This program is part of an area-wide severe weather preparedness campaign, which will include spotter training sessions across 46 counties in North and Central Texas.
The annual class reviews thunderstorm formations and features associated with severe and non-severe storms. The class will present new video footage of storms and advise on recommended reporting procedures. But most importantly what to do to stay safe during impending weather.
