Rancid-smelling organic material in Lake Lavon has water quality crews looking into the matter.

A spokeswoman for the North Texas Municipal Water Districttold the Dallas Morning Newsthat too much water from heavy rains can cause an overflow. As to what the floating material is, Wylie-area residents told Dallas area news agencies that it looked and smelled like human waste.

The Water District says crews will test the material. No negative effects on the drinking supply or wildlife are expected.
