State agency ordered to resolve reservoir dispute

AUSTIN - Northeast Texas landowners and at timber company have won a decision from a district judge in Austin into the debate over the Marvin Nichols Reservoir.

The judge on Monday ordered a state water agency to resolve a dispute over whether Dallas will build the reservoir.

Landowners and the timber company had filed suit challenging the Texas Water Development Board’s finding that no inter-regional conflict exists between the Region C Water Plan and Region D Water Plan.

The Longview News-Journal reports that Marvin Nichols would flood an estimated 72,000 acres along the Sulfur River, mostly in Red River County. Members of the Region D Water Planning Group, which covers Northeast Texas, say that Region C planners in Dallas should explore other options before building a lake.
