Williams pleads guilty to arson at city jail

COMMERCE - A Commerce man who set fire to his jail cell has been sentenced to half a dozen years behind bars. 

Curtis Williams pleaded guilty to arson on Thursday and was given six years in prison as part of a plea deal.

According to Commerce Police, Williams was arrested on class C misdemeanor warrants in August 2011 and brought to the city jail. Inside his cell, he was reported to have set fire to a bible and toilet paper on top of the fire retardant mattress. The jail cell suffered some smoke damage.
